Preserving the Moment

Preserving the Moment
The Goshen Guide was envisioned and designed as a creative way to preserve and share information.  As an archive, it provides a window into the past.

By gathering and cataloging new stories as they emerge, our goal is to curate them to be more easily accessible in the future, and in the moment. This is especially the case for prominent issues and events that shape the story of Goshen, such as the record February 2018 flooding and the Core Civic Detention Center.

Many features of the site evolved as we gathered the stories and perspectives surrounding the detention center.  Even though this site is still in development, the current flooding motivated us to press the Guide into service sooner than planned to help collect and disseminate the emerging stories and information. For better or for worse, these events are now a part of our shared history. By preserving them here, we hope to make that history easier to tell.

Below are initial archives of collected info that we hope will help the community see a bigger picture of the events as they unfolded.

What is the Goshen Guide?

  • an archive of local stories and information
  • a media platform for people to publish and share new information
  • a map of community assets and features that shape this place
  • a directory of local groups and activities
  • a wiki for the common good
