Goshen College, College Mennonite Church announce plans for solar project
Feb 27, 2018 - Author(s): Brian Yoder Schlabach | Elkhart Truth
Goshen College (GC) and College Mennonite Church (CMC) have announced a project to jointly install a 924-panel solar array - the first solar panels on campus - which will make the Church-Chapel building fully powered by renewable energy. The panels will be installed on the roof of the college’s Rec-Fitness Center and provide 277 kilowatts of power, offsetting the Church-Chapel building’s electric bill, with the costs being fully recovered in about a decade. “Environmental sustainability is a natural priority for both Goshen College, which does so much to teach thoughtful stewardship, and for College Mennonite Church, which seeks to be a blessing in its community and honor our creator God in word and deed,” said David Lapp Jost, a 2011 Goshen College graduate and a member of College Mennonite Church who started this project and spearheaded fundraising. “In addition to saving both institutions tens of thousands of dollars annually for years to come, this project is a testament to deep shared values.”
